Thanks for taking a moment to check out some of the music that has appeared on Splintered Tree Records over the last 10 years. Before you dig into all the amazing music it would be good to explain briefly how we do things here at the S.T.R. shop. Needless to say, things have changed dramatically for musicians and the music business in the last decade. Technology can be a best friend and a worst enemy at the same time. We recognize that people nowadays are used to getting their music for free, the desire for a physical product is waning for the average music consumer, and we recognize that there’s nothing much to be done about it but ride the wave of reality. The reality is S.T.R. is an independent record label representing independent artists with unique musical visions and we’re not in a position to demand much from our potential fans (emphasis on ‘potential’) except a little consideration out of the goodness of their hearts. So our web-store mostly operates on the ‘honor-system’ unless you want to order CD’s or Vinyl for posterity, sentimentality, or just from a true music-collector’s zeal. You can listen to and/or download anything you want for free and in exchange we humbly ask that you consider what this music is ‘worth’ to you. We provide ‘donate’ buttons on each page so that you can easily put your money where your mouse is at a level that is comfortable for you while supporting the music, the artists, and the label that brought it to you.
